Textured Abstract series [15 Images]
I have always been intrigued by the beauty of the world, the visual world that is already out there, in our reach. Its colors, shapes and textures that we witness and experience everyday. My work combines these three aspects to create a world of its own. The fondness that I have for large works and the automatic and spontaneous but subconscious creation of my pieces are all related to my main influence, the Abstract Expressionists.
I create geometric compositions with a limited palette that is assigned to each canvas, in which then solid areas of color are selected while my love of brushwork is reflected in the textured part of my pieces. The textured part is painted by first adding a base of solid colors in which then layers of acrylic are dry brushed on top until I am pleased with the final result. Because of the use of these two extremes, the solid flats and the extreme texture, an interesting visual experience is created in my work. The viewer is visually stimulated by the positive negative space and the pushing and pulling that occurs in the painting. The textured parts are pushed forward while the solid painted spaces are pulled back into space.
I would like my images to bring enjoyment to the viewers while there eyes travel through the piece pushing them into the works to experience a blend of shape and color

OBSESSED MUCH
Some people call my obsessive behavior towards cows strange, weird and even abnormal; I just call it strangely normal. As a child I collected mass-produced commodities such as cups, glasses, etc. of the black and white bovine cow.
COLLECTION TURNED INTO OBSESSION
While growing up in agricultural Belgium I was surrounded by the cow image my entire life and in a sense gained this feeling of trust and admiration towards them.
My daily obsessive behavior is represented in my work in a humorous and romanticized way. Repetition and actual store-bought items and materials are used together with paint to create pieces on canvas that bring the animal and the man-made image together making the viewer experience this world of obsession.
Most people don’t pay much attention to cows, because they are so common. Every landscape has a cow positioned in it, everywhere we go there is a reminder of its black and white pattern. But if you take a closer look, you can see that they are beautiful creatures worthy of being painted.
